SSAA (WA) Club Re-Opening Statement (June 2020)

To: All SSAA WA Branches and Management Committees All SSAA WA Discipline Delegates

Ref: SSAA WA Directive on Club Operations in Western Australia

In response to the latest easing of restrictions announced by the WA State Government effective 11.59pm Friday 5th June 2020, the SSAA WA are pleased to announce the recommendation to all SSAA WA clubs to now recommence competition shooting activities effective Saturday 6th June 2020.

The introduction of Phase 3 of the roadmap to recovery plan for Western Australia also outlines a number of health and hygiene protocols that must be followed by all WA sporting clubs and recreational venues, in order to mitigate the threat of COVID-19 and to ensure the safest possible environment for all participants.

The State of Emergency declared on the 15th March 2020 under the WA Emergency Management Act 2005 remains in place however the new rules now permit mass gathering sizes of 100 people in a single undivided space, up to a maximum of 300 people in total at a single use venue.

In addition to these rules, strict hygiene and distancing protocols still apply and all SSAA WA clubs will soon be provided with high quality, highly visible and distinctly SSAA infographic signage, to reinforce the message of health and hygiene with our initiative of “Staying Safe on The Range”

This resource will also be made available to clubs in printable format, should they wish to produce additional paper copies to display in multiple locations on the ranges or in clubhouses.

Clubs and Range Officers are respectfully reminded to carefully reacquaint themselves with the rules for their respective disciplines and to ensure the Safe Use of Firearms principles are maintained at all times. It has been quite a time away from competitions, so a steady re start is the order of the day, with considerations for shared equipment, shared facilities and the safest operation of our sport at all times. At this stage, the SSAA WA State Executive is yet to convene with respect to a decision on State Title events, and with Interstate Border controls still in place, the resolution of National Title events is also yet to be resolved. As decisions are reached, in consultation with State and National discipline delegates we will advise the next phase of the resumption of all events for 2020.

I would like to take this opportunity to express the sincerest gratitude of the SSAA WA State Executive to all SSAA WA Club Committees and SSAA WA Members across the State in their support of the decisions made and the uniform approach to dealing with this National crisis.

Most of all Stay Safe and Enjoy
